Youth and Parents–
We will NOT be having confirmation on Wednesday Oct. 31st from 7-8:30pm. The staff discussed the pros and cons of having confirmation on Halloween and decided that we will go ahead and cancel for the evening. Youth will still receive the take-home lesson to complete for the next week! If you have questions or concerns please contact Dan Burris.
Join us Friday Nov 16th-17th for an
overnight retreat to
which covers lodging, breakfast, and lunch.
During the retreat we will be getting to know other youth from around
the synod while playing games, participating in faith-building activities, and
worshipping together. Please let Dan
know if you plan on attending by or before Sunday November 4th.
Come and join us for the Harvest Festival on Saturday Nov.
10th beginning at 4:30pm and stay for a night at the movies in the Erin Chaffee youth
room beginning at 7:30pm.
Theme: “iPray: Always Connected”
Date: Friday & Saturday, November 9th&10th (Friday
Evening to Saturday Afternoon)
Place: St. Philip Lutheran Church in Raleigh & Camp
Agape, Fuquay-Varina (Hike-a-thon)
What’s it all about?: Our Cluster will be staying over night
at St. Phillip Lutheran Church, spending time in fellowship, worship &
learning, elect our board for the next year and go to Camp Agape for the 4th
annual Hike-a-thon (Fundraiser for the Environmental Education Program at Camp
Agape). Our theme ‘iPray’ is a spin off from the ever popular iPods and iPhones
which keep us connected to the world constantly. We will be discussing how we
are connected through prayer to God in our lives and how it can be an exciting
part of our lives.
Why Come: It is an excellent opportunity for your youth to
meet other Lutheran youth in our cluster, explore leadership opportunities,
serve through fun ways (Hike-a-thon) and much more. Last year we had a great
time with the Youth Encounter Group that was part our rally and we are
exploring bringing another group again this year.
Cost: $25
Please let Dan know if you plan on attending by or before
Wednesday November 7th
The High School SME class will be worshiping at Joy of Discovery this Sunday. We will leave GSLC at 10am and expect to be back between 12:30 and 1pm. Please bring money for an offering and to grab a bite to eat afterwards. We are also looking for additional adult drivers to assist with transportation.
Sunday Morning Education resumes this Sunday from 9:45am until 10:45am.
The High School youth will be gathering in the Erin Chaffee Youth Room throughout the year. They will be co-taught by Dan Burris and Ann K.
7th and 8th grade youth can find their classes located in the Trailers at the end of the education wing. The 7th graders welcome Michelle N. and Meg E. as teachers for this year while the 8th graders will be taught by Ed and Michele L. and a whole hosts of others!
As part of our Sunday Morning Education we are introducing something new
for our 6th grade youth: Faith Projects. Working with mentors, the pastors, and SME
teaching staff, the children will choose some aspect of our faith which they
wish to understand better. Working
during SME (this is not homework), the children will do research and decide on
how they wish to present their findings to their fellow classmates (and interested
parents). The projects and presentations
can be as simple or as in depth as is needed for each child. Mentors, pastors, and teaching staff will
assist each youth in finding an appropriate project.
Last night was our first Confirmation class for the 2007-08 school year. This year we will be taking an in-depth look at the New Testament. Our Confirmation ministry has also slightly changed moving from a three year process on Wednesday nights to a two year process on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings.
We kicked off our new year by talking about the Annunciation and what it meant for the angel Gabriel to come and speak to Mary and how scared and excited Mary must have felt. We learned that with God, anything is possible! Jessica T. was our lifeline and talked about the story of her pregnancy and birth of her two older boys Alex and Brennen and how much of a miracle they have been to her and her husband Byron.
Vicar Ryan led the group in a “baby-crawl” relay race, which resulted in some rug-burned knees and mini Baby Ruth’s all around! Attached to the chocolates was the Bible verse from Luke 1:37, “For nothing will be impossible with God.”
Next week we will be taking a look at the Magi.
peace to you,
Dan
All–
If you wouldn’t mind taking a minute to fill out this survey that was put together by the Media Ministry Team. One of their team members approached me yesterday and specifically said that the team would like to receive input from our youth. Please take a few minutes and fill out this survey at the following link. Thanks!

I hope and trust that everyone has a great and safe summer. As we look to begin a new school year the GSLC youth ministry program is attempting to utilize a blog to help keep you up to date with what’s happening for our middle school and high school youth here at Good Shepherd. You can find those listings in our Youth Activities section.
If there are specific things that would help you get connected through this blog please contact us and let us know!
Peace,
